It is certainly true that speeding can cause car accidents. It makes it more likely that a driver will lose control of the vehicle and it means they have less reaction time. Speed can also make the accident more severe, leading to more serious injuries.
To stay safe, some drivers decide that they are going to drive well below the speed limit. They will just take their time and be cautious, and they think they are reducing the odds of an accident. But is this actually true?
Why the opposite may be true
What studies have found is that driving too slowly actually increases the odds that a car crash will take place. It is not safer than speeding. Slow drivers will sometimes get rear-ended by unaware drivers behind them. This is not necessarily the front driver’s fault, but their slow speed is a reason for the crash.
